GRAFTON, Mass. ‒ Local girl scouts are out to prove to the boys they, too, are built for speed, but they need more girl scouts to join them.
Girl Scout Cadette Troop 30220 has teamed with Cub Scout Pack 106 for a Powder Puff Derby in Januuary. The competition with wooden hand-held race cars teaches the kids about woodworking, plus gravity, inertia and the forces of friction and air drag.
This is a new girl scout event modeled after the Cub Scouts' Pinewood Derby.
The girls, monitored by adult leaders, will make the race cars from kits then compete for fastest times on a wooden ramp.
The Cub Scouts will help set up the track and the computerized timer.
The race is to be held Jan. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Saint James Parish Hall, 89 Main St., South Grafton.
Suzanne Bayreuther, co-leader of Cadette Troop 30220, is asking for troop leaders to contact her if any of their girl scouts would like to participate. The cost is $10 per two person race team. Deadline is Nov. 30. For more information, email graftontroop30220@gmail.com.

Good luck with this event, Suzanne and all the Girl Scouts! It sounds like a lot of fun!
The boys of Pack 106 are looking forward to the "boys v. girls" races, too!
