Wilton Runners Shine in Colgate Women's Games

WILTON, Conn. – After two weeks of competition at the Colgate Women’s Games in Brooklyn, N.Y., Brynn Parsons is in fourth place and Kafesha Thomas is in fifth in the 55-meter dash. The Wilton runners are separated by a half-point in the four-race series. They run for the Connecticut Elite in the series.

Thomas edged Parsons to make the finals in a race Dec. 30 and finished sixth overall, followed by Parsons. Both athletes had identical times of 7.35 in the semifinal, with Thomas crossing the finish line an instant before Parsons.

Parsons also finished ninth in the 200 in 26.8, her best this season. “Brynn and Kafesha were not feeling particularly well that evening so their performances were outstanding all things considered,’’ Connecticut Elite coach Kevin Foley said.

Parsons is ranked second in Connecticut in the 55 by MileSplit and will be moving up to the top five in the 200 based on her performance in that event last week. Thomas is 17th in the 55M in Connecticut by MileSplit. All rankings are based on times posted thus far in the indoor season.

Katie Foley, a Wilton resident who attends Lauralton Hall in Milford, also competed in the Colgate Women’s Games. Foley finished first in her heat in the 200M in a time of 29.9 and made it to the quarterfinals in the 55M before retiring for the evening. “It is good to see Katie back on the track," Foley said. “She didn’t run much last year because she was recovering from a concussion so it is really good to see her getting back into it.”

The next round of the games will be held Jan. 6 at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.
