SUTTON, Mass. — The Blackstone River Watershed Association is hosting a guided winter hike at Purgatory Chasm Jan. 26.
Susan Thomas, Blackstone River Watershed Association assistant and natural history guide for Mass Audubon at Broad Meadow Brook, will lead a scenic hike of the park. The 1.5-mile hike will include hemlock and oak groves, wetlands and streams and "Little Purgatory," a spot often overlooked by visitors. Thomas will share her knowledge of the plants and wildlife of the area, as well as the historical and geological features of the state reservation.
The ground is uneven and could be snow covered or muddy depending on the weather. Appropriate footwear is recommended and hikers should bring their own water.
The 90-minute hike will begin at 1 p.m. To reserve a spot, email events@thebrwa.org or call 508-278-5200.
