GRAFTON, Mass. - At their first Pack Meeting of the year, Cub Scout Pack 106 gave special recognition to scouts who have hiked in excess of 50 miles with the Pack.

Dante O'Neill and Mattie Thomas, Bear Scouts, were each presented with a personalized Hiking Stick for their effort. Dante and Mattie hiked their 50th mile over the summer at a Pack get-together and a hike at Mt. Monadnock.

George Hardiman and James Alderton, Webelos Scouts, were presented with their very own backpacks for their achievement of hiking 100 miles over the course of scouting, including a hike up Mt. Monadnock.

Jacob Paquin, Webelos Scout, was awarded a backpacking tent for his achievement of hiking 125 miles over the course of several years of scouting.  Jacob became the first scout to earn this award in Pack 106.

In addition to the Hiking Sticks, the boys' names were placed on the Pack's "Banner of Achievement", which is displayed at Pack Meetings, and lists current and past years' scouts who have gone above and beyond with special accomplishments.

If you see the boys around town, please compliment them on their achievements and focus. At the Cub Scout level, hiking this many miles with their Den or Pack is quite a feat!

Pack 106 is chartered out of St. Mary's Church in North Grafton, and is still taking registrations for the 2011-2012 year, which has just gotten underway. For more information, check out the Pack's website at http://www.graftonpack106.org/, or contact Cubmaster Chris Paquin directly at cpaquin42@gmail.com, or 508-839-0195.

Congratulations to all the boys on their achievements. However, this article should have said that Jacob was the first scout to earn the backpacking tent this year, for hiking 125 miles. The first scout to ever earn this special award in Pack 106 history was Matthew Whitney. Matthew received the 125 mile tent last February at the Pack 106 Blue and Gold banquet.
