Grafton's Boy Scout Troop 106 Returns

GRAFTON, Mass. ‒ After 5 years of dormancy, Grafton Boy Scout Troop 106 is being reformed.

Scoutmaster Chris Paquin is offering the boys of Grafton some additional scouting options. Troop 106 will be chartered out of St. Mary's Church in North Grafton, and Father Ken Cardinale has graciously pledged his support to the new unit.

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Boy Scout units are "boy-led" organizations, and there are no better ways of learning valuable leadership and outdoor skills than by being involved in Scouting. The founder of Scouting, Lord Baden Powell, described Scouting as "Fun with a Purpose", and that's exactly what Troop 106 is after.

Adult leaders will help to guide the boys as they learn these skills, with older scouts taking on more responsibility.

Scoutmaster Paquin will bring the same level of focus on outdoor activities as he did with Pack 106 to the new Troop.

Any boys who are between 11 and 17 years old are urged to give Scouting a try. Former Boy Scouts are welcome, too. Regardless of the reasons for dropping out of Scouts previously, you might find Troop 106's activities right up your alley. Who knows? You might be a senior member of the Troop on day one.

Some adults are needed too ‒ specifically, some Assistant Scoutmasters, and especially a Committee Chairperson. If you are a former scouter, or are just looking to help out, please get in touch with Chris.  There is no better way to spend quality time with your own son, share your knowledge and skills, or give back to the community. Prospective leaders will need to complete CORI and SORI forms.

The meeting schedule has not yet been determined, but as soon as a committee meeting is held, hopefully in the first weeks of January, this and other items can be decided upon. The Troop will have a number of boys crossing over from the town's Cub Scout Packs after their Blue and Gold Banquets in February.

Troop 106 is chartered out of St. Mary's Church in North Grafton. For more information, check out the Troop's website at www.graftontroop106.org/, or contact Scoutmaster Chris Paquin directly at cpaquin42@gmail.com, or 508-839-0195.

Thanks, Elgixin! I, as well, can personally attest to the skills that scouts learn in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. I got up to Life Scout (Life for Life!), and thoroughly regret not pursuing Eagle.

The new Troop is going to be a challenge, but I'm really looking forward to it after my time with Pack 106!

Note: if you're interested in helping out, even a little, please drop me a line at cpaquin42@gmail.com! I can use Assistant Scoutmasters, Committee members, and a Committee Chair.

Regards...Chris

Congrats on reforming guys.... Both Pack and Troop 106 were part of my life growing up in Grafton and if it wasn't for the skills and leadership I learned in my days as a Scout I could not be who I am today. Thank you then and Thank you now for this great program in North Grafton.
