GRAFTON, Mass. – Where in Grafton was Smiley?
On his latest outing, Smiley visited Charlie the Ice Man, the Grafton Lions Club's sentinel on Lake Ripple.
The Lions are having their second annual Ice-Out Contest, with a $500 prize to the resident who can predict the moment Charlie, a snazzily dressed mannequin, will fall through the ice this spring. Charlie is equipped with a battery-operated clock attached to a large stone, which will mark the time when Charlie breaks through the ice.
A $5 entry fee is required. The person who guesses closest to the date, hour and minute Charlie breaks through will win. Several local businesses have tickets for sale or contact Phil Johanson at MPJohnanson@msn.com or 508-751-3351 or 508-476-1271.
Smiley lives in editor Jennifer Lord Paluzzi's camera bag, so you never know where he'll turn up in Grafton. Email suggestions to jpaluzzi@dailyvoice.com.

I'm not sure if Smiley can actually "swim", but I bet he sure can float ! So I'm guessing that he might need to be toweled-off if he is there when the ice breaks, but otherwise be OK...
