GRAFTON, Mass.  - Two South Grafton brothers brought home trophies from a chess tournament Sunday in Chelmsford.

Utkarsh Raj Pandey, 14, an eighth-grader from the Grafton Middle School, placed first in the 72nd Chelmsford Burger King Chess Tournament in his age group. His brother, Utkal, 13, a seventh-grader, placed third.

Although both of the boys are chess wizards, neither parent said they're sure where their sons' talent came from.

"It's surprising," said their father, Raj Pandey. "I don't know how to play."

What is known is that both boys love chess. Utkarsh and Utkal have been playing since they were 5 years old and will often compete against each other after school.

Every year they get better. According to Nishu Pandey, their mom, son Utkarsh placed second in school in 2011 and third in 2010; while Utkal placed fourth in 2011 and third in 2010.
