NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – Volunteers, prizes, raffle donations and hole sponsors are needed for a best ball tournament planned to benefit the Michael J. Paulhus Memorial Scholarship Fund.
It’s been 15 years since the death of Michael Paulhus. “Mike was an outstanding athlete at Northbridge High School, graduating in 1980. He excelled in football and baseball .He attended Westfield State University where he continued to play football. He had great carpentry skills that he put to use as a general contractor,” said Marnie Newton Havalotti, one of the organizers.
For several years following his death, the scholarship was paid for with an ice fishing event and dinner at the Manchaug Legion Hall, but fundraising ended about seven years ago.
His mother wanted to recognize the 15th anniversary of his death so a committee was formed.
The scholarship committee consists of Michael’s friends and classmates, Paul Hathaway, John Susienka, Havalotti and Dave Hetu.
A scholarship is awarded to deserving students from Northbridge High School and neighboring schools. The scholarship is awarded based on financial need, essays and input from each school’s guidance office, along with his family and friends.
The tournament will be May 18 at Blackstone National Golf Course, 227 Putnam Hill Road, Sutton. The $130 player fee includes golf, cart, prizes, cookout and entertainment. The cost for dinner only is $25. Hole sponsorship is $100.
To register, send checks to Marnie Newton Havalotti, 173 Martin Road, Douglas, MA 01516. For more information, call 774-280-0462 or email email@example.com
