Depot Street Bridge Repairs Begin Next Week In Grafton

GRAFTON, Mass. ‒ Repairs will begin next week on the Depot Street Bridge, creating limited access to a span that has been one-way for more than a year.

The bridge's sidewalk was declared structurally unsafe by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation in March 2011. With the sidewalk closed off by Jersey barriers and a makeshift sidewalk in place, there has been only enough space for traffic to exit Depot Street from the Ferry Street side, with no entry from Providence Road.

The Board of Selectmen earlier this month approved a $95,000 contract with R. Bates and Sons, Inc., of Sterling for the repairs.

Work begins on Wednesday, Sept. 19, with access expected to be "limited and sporadic" through Dec. 1, according to an email from Town Administrator Tim McInerney.
