GRAFTON, Mass. – James L. O'Connor, formerly of North Grafton, died Feb. 1 after suffering a heart attack. He was 84.
He was born Oct. 5, 1928, in North Grafton to Michael J. and Catherine Murrihy O'Connor. Raised in North Grafton, O'Connor lived most of his life there before moving to Worcester.
He worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for more than 40 years, retiring from the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. O'Connor and his wife enjoyed their retirement at their home in Falmouth, Mass.
O'Connor was currently a parishioner of St. Stephen's Parish in Worcester and a former member of St. Mary's Parish in North Grafton.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen A. Grosh O'Connor; two children, James L. (Ann) O'Connor Jr., of Milford, and Susan (Steve) Martins, of Pittsburgh; a sister, Gertrude Kneeland, of Weston, Mass.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" O'Connor and Frances Adamonis; and a brother, John J. O'Connor.
Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Roney Funeral Home in North Grafton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church in Worcester. Burial will follow at St. Philip's Cemetery in Grafton.
