Obituary: Elsie (Hoogendyk) Marean, 91

GRAFTON, Mass. -  Elsie (Hoogendyk) Marean, 91, died peacefully October 2, 2012.

She is survived by her daughters Linda Casey of Grafton and Priscilla A. Spencer of Orange,and her son William C. Marean, Jr. and his wife Linda of Lawrenceburg, KY. She also leaves her brothers Arthur Hoogendyk of Whitinsville and Joseph Hoogendyk and his wife Sally of Falmouth,  and her sisters Theresa Shaffer of Hubbardston and Henrietta Hoogendyk of Whitinsville. Elsie also leaves seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews and her dear friend Garfield Atchue. Her baby sister Priscilla Hoogendyk and sister Annie Heerdt of Whitinsville and her grand-daughter Elizabeth Casey, predeceased her.

Elsie was born June 10, 1921 in the village of Whitinsville, daughter of the late Elizabeth (Haringa) and William Hoogendyk. Elsie worked at the Blue Eagle Inn in Whitinsville, the Grafton Inn, and also at Keith Hill Nursing Home in Grafton for over 35 years. She was also a devoted member of the Baptist Church of Grafton, serving on its Mission Society,
acting as its secretary, and baking for many years with the ladies guild for church events, particularly her specialty, angel food cake.

Elsie was fiercely independent for most of her life, she loved to swim and enjoyed walking. Those who knew Elsie will remember a genuine, kind soul and a treasured member
of her church and the Grafton community as well.

All are invited to calling hours for Elsie Friday, Oct. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., N. Grafton, MA 01536. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 6 th at 11 a.m. at The Baptist Church of Grafton, 30 Grafton Common, Grafton, MA 01519. All attending the funeral service are politely requested to go directly to the church. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of her family.

In lieu of flowers her family requests memorial donations to The Baptist Church of Grafton 1 South St. Grafton, MA 01519.
