GRAFTON, Mass. - Ernest W. Peters, 72, a longtime member of the Grafton Board of Health and a former firefighter, died Sept. 26, 2012 after a struggle with heart problems for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Estelle B. (Piette) Peters; two children, John E. Peters and Chantale E. Souda; three grandchildren, John E. Peters II, Morgan E. Peters and Paige A. Souda; daughter-in-law Shannon, son-in-law David and many other family members and longtime friends, including Mike Noel, who was a special person in Ernie’s life.
Mr. Peters was born September 22, 1940 in Worcester, the son of Hope Betty Peters, and lived most of his life in Grafton. He founded and operated JC Wholesale Auto from 1990 to the present time. He also had worked for Frank Noel & Sons, E.L. Dauphinais Inc., both in Grafton, and Union Cartage in Worcester.
“Ernie” as he was called by many who knew him well, loved his town and was active in its function, having served many years as a member of the Board of Health, a cemetery commissioner, and a firefighter, assigned to Engine Co. 2 from 1961 to 1979. He also was a driver in the Nascar Modified Series, racing at many tracks throughout the Northeast.
His greatest joy was watching and encouraging his children and grandchildren with his wife as the children participated in their many activities, particularly ice hockey and dancing.
Following Mr. Peters' love of his town, donations are requested to Engine Co. 2 Inc., PO Box 75, North Grafton, MA 01536 or The Grafton Food Bank, PO Box 324, Grafton, MA, 01519 in lieu of flowers.

Comments
Ernie was an integral part of the Grafton Board of Health, and he will be missed by many people. We cannot thank him enough for all of his work, and know he will be watching over our meetings.
I liked Ernie Peters, he loved Grafton and he did his best to be involved and to be fair to its history and its future. We may not always have agreed, but we both knew, interested and involved citizens are positive for the/any community.
God Bless,
