WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — Grafton's Charles Leffler, 82, was arraigned on four charges of statutory rape of a child dating to 1994 in proceedings Thursday at Westborough District Court.
The female victim, who was between the ages of 13 and 16 at the time of the alleged incidents, took horseback riding lessons with Leffler beginning in 1994 at his horseback riding stable, according to a report filed by Officer James Crosby of the Grafton Police Department. She said a majority of the assaults occurred at 139 Upton St., Grafton.
The victim described "the grooming process used by Leffler, which resulted in numerous incidents of indecent assault and batteries as well as numerous incidents of statutory rape," the police report said.
Leffler, of 14 Fay Mountain Road, was released after his arraignment on personal recognizance with the stipulation he stays away from the victim and children under age 16.
He is due back Feb. 13 for a pretrial hearing at Westborough District Court.
