GRAFTON, Mass. - A Grafton man was ejected from his vehicle Thursday night after a crash on Institute Road, Grafton Police Chief Normand Crepeau Jr. said.

Grafton Police, responding to a call at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, found an overturned vehicle and a man lying in the roadway. Michael Shaughnessy, 24, of Grafton, was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center with serious injuries, police said.

Preliminary investigation showed the vehicle was heading north on Institute Road near Westboro Road (Route 30) when it left the roadway and struck an embankment, Crepeau said. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its wheels in the southbound lane.

Responding officers searched the vehicle and surrounding area but were unable to locate anyone else, Crepeau said. There appeared to be no other vehicles involved in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by Officer Mark Benoit and Officer James Barth, the department’s accident reconstruction specialist.
