GRAFTON, Mass. - The Grafton Board of Selectmen, on Tuesday night, unanimously voted, 4-0, to appoint Brian P. Bavosi as an auxiliary firefighter on the Grafton Fire Department.
Bavosi , 33, is the son of Captain Stephen Bavosi, who is stationed at the main firehouse near the Grafton Common. Brian was on the squad from 1994 to 2001 before moving to Colorado. He returned to Grafton last December.
“It’s good to be back,” Bavosi said in a phone interview. “I missed Grafton while I lived out west.”
Bavosi said he remembers frequenting the firehouse since he was a boy when his father, a 40 year veteran, would take him. “It’s in my blood,” he said.
Bavosi is an operator at the Grafton Sewer Department and lives in town which he said will make it easy to respond when the fire horn blows.
Fire Chief Michael E. Gauthier agreed. “We’re lucky to have one of our trained men back,” he said. “Many of our new hires need to go through basic training, but not Brian.”
Gauthier added that even though Bavosi hasn't been an active firefighter since 2001, he should be able to get up to speed through the department's standard ongoing training programs that all firefighters receive.
The next steps for Bavosi is to pass his physical, then be sworn in to the department. Gauthier said all of this could be accomplished by the end of the week.
