Later Start Time Planned For Grafton's Millbury Street School

GRAFTON, Mass. - School will be starting and ending later for Millbury Street Elementary School students as of Friday in an attempt to improve the school bus schedule.

"We have concluded that we simply need more time between bus runs to North Street Elementary School and Millbury Street Elementary School," Superintendent of Schools James Cummings said.

As a result, the start and end times for Millbury Street School students have been pushed back by 10 minutes. School will start at 8:25 a.m. and dismissal time begins at 2:55 p.m.

This now gives the school department 30 minutes between the dismissal times at the two Grade 2 to 6 schools.

"Given that the majority of buses have been running 5-10 minutes behind schedule consistently, this change will not result in substantial changes to the pick-up and drop-off times that have been in existence over the first few weeks of school," Cummings said. "Again, bus arrivals at student bus stops in both the mornings and afternoons should not shift by more than five minutes."

The revised bus stop times will be posted on the Grafton Public Schools website.

And yet on Friday, the bus was still late, by 15 minutes.

MomGrafton2:

Seriously, did they really think the bus situation was going to work when they started this?? Talk about bad planning. Now my sixth grader (now housed at the elementary school) has no opportunity to participate in the MIDDLE school extra curricular activities as they get out of school so much later than Middle school AND NSS. Nice job Grafton school committee and Mr. Cummings. As time goes on, I see more and more details that were left out.

I know I hold Grafton's leadership to high standards, but with the entire reshaping of the Grafton public system this year; I think a 10 minute adjustment to a bus schedule is ordinary.
