GRAFTON, Mass. — The South Grafton Parent Teacher Organization was awarded a $5,000 grant from Staples, the office supply chain, to fund school field trips and other enrichment programs in Grafton Public Schools.
The money comes from a new charitable initiative at Staples called 2 Million and Change, which allows Staples employees to direct funding to nonprofit organizations that are focused on education or job skills.
“The Staples Foundation is committed to making a positive impact in the communities where our associates live and work,” Katy Dobbs, director of global community relations for Staples, said in a statement.
The South Grafton PTO has previously used donations from different sources to pay for grade school trips to the Southwick Zoo Mobile, New England Aquarium Tidal Pool Adaptations and Stowe Farm as well as a visit by author Carol Weis.

Bubbly,
The NGES PTG did not receive this grant because we did not apply for it. Unfortunately, we did not have the bandwidth early in the year to apply for the Staples grant. We have applied for many grants this year and have received well over 1000 dollars in grant money. If you have experience applying for grants or would like to help us out on the PTG to raise money for our schools, we would love to have you! Please visit http://www.nges-ptg.org/ or contact any of board members.
We have two PTGS one who helps out North Grafton schools from Prek-6 and one who helps out South Grafton Schools and the PTGs do work closely together. Right now we are busy planning the annual basketball game.
This grant is wonderful news to South Grafton and I'd like to congratulate them. If you would like to talk further, please do not hesitate to contact me - at ortlaura@hotmail.com. Thank you for your thoughts.
Regards,
Laura Often
NGES PTG Co-Chair.
as a lifelong resident of this town I have chose not to see the North vs South battle as u put it that is only something that has been brought about by the parents as the children grew...as for why is there not a Grafton PTO 1 would imagine that is because 1 organization could not over see in control all of the schools activities...can't we just look at this as a great gesture and realize it is good for the town in by way of reducing or helping out with our tax burdens
Relax buubly maybe it was directed funds through the parent of kids in the SGES if thats where my kids go I woukd direct it there as well....and I am sure you would as well...I think its great and kudos to whoever helped them get the funds....
As I said - separate but equal - I've heard that saying long ago, just didn't realize it was still alive and well in such a quaint town as Grafton. I think it's great too, but seemingly very devisive in nature. Why isn't there a "Grafton PTO"? We've always had a problem with North vs. South, and the guy in charge of the $800K shortfall, (Cummings) didn't do the situation any favors with his redistricting plan.
Wonder how much the North Grafton PTO gets? Right - nothing - separate but equal parents and teachers.
