MILLBURY, Mass. —With a full slate of great games this week -- many rescheduled from the traditional Friday night due to the threat of EEE carried by mosquitoes -- Central Mass. Football has plenty of interesting matchups this weekend.
St. Bernard's @ Millbury Saturday 1 p.m. - St. Bernard's lost to Oakmont 20-6 in its opener, but wide receiver Sean Maki scored on a 70 yard scoring pass. St. Bernard's beat Millbury 49-34 last season and is led by Co-captain quarterback Justin Valliere.
Millbury beat Asabet Valley 27-8, led by Ross Sudar who gained 125 yards on the ground and scored on runs of 60 and 45 yards. The Woolies Randy Mogren anchors the defense.
Leicester @ Oakmont, Saturday 1 p.m.- The Wolverines routed North 34-6, and quarterback Drew Mazzeo rushed for 122 yards and added a scoring pass of 36 yards.
Oakmont beat St. Bernards 20-6 behind Junior Connor Brown's three touchdown runs of 70, 6 and 9 yards.
Uxbridge @ Grafton, Saturday 1 p.m.- Grafton beat Nipmuc 16-0 behind the running of Cody Munoz who had 82 yards on 17 carries and added two touchdown runs.
Jared Stewart scored on a 12 yard pass in the third quarter to lift the visiting Spartans over Ayer Shirley. Joe Fitzgerald carried 13 times for 93 yards, while Brad Couture carried 17 times for 72 yards for Uxbridge.
Holliston @ Auburn, Saturday 1 p.m. - Auburn beat Shrewsbury 28 -6 behind a superb performance behind their mammoth offensive line. Dom Dicarlo scored twice and the offense spread the ball around using a balanced attack.
Holliston dropped their first game to Stoughton 28-13 last week.
Southbridge @ Blackstone Valley Tech, Saturday 1 p.m. - Southbridge dropped their opener 29-8 as Jason Peck scored the only touchdown and passed for the two point conversion.
BVT routed Tri County 41-14 as Taylor Hanson carried 11 times for 156 yards and two TDs for the Beavers.
Northbridge @ David Prouty, Friday 5 p.m.- The Rams' Matt Phelan caught a 39-yard scoring pass, then rushed for three more touchdowns as Northbridge rolled in their opener over Bartlett.
Prouty was routed by Tyngsboro 35-13 but were led by scoring runs of 1 yard by Marc Lamoureux and Brandon Roy.
Shrewsbury @ Marlborough, Friday 7 p.m. -Shrewsbury lost to Auburn 28-6 last week, with the lone bright spot being the 18 yard scoring pass by Jay Reynolds.
Marlborough was routed by Central Catholic 33-6 last week.
Wachusett @ Algonquin, Friday 3 p.m.- Algonquin blanked Burncoat 26-0 as they used a balanced attack and had four different players score. Linebacker Mike Baker led the team with 11 tackles.
Wachusett was routed by Nashoba 44 -14 in their opener.
Westborough @ Holy Name, Saturday 1 p.m.-The Rangers lost 38-22 in their opener against Shepherd Hill as Dan Orlando threw for one score and ran for another.
Holy Name dropped a heartbreaker to St. John's 47-40, as Quron Wright had 28 carries for a career-high 286 yards and four touchdowns for the Naps.
Longmeadow @ St. John's, Saturday 1 p.m. -Shad Abrokwah had 202 yards and three touchdowns on 24 rushes, while Drew Smiley completed 13 of 21 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing 14 times for 135 yards and a score as the Pioneers beat Holy Name 47-40.
Longmeadow blasted Chicopee 44-6 as Frankie Elder ran for four touchdowns and passed for another.
