GRAFTON, Mass. - Grafton Girls Softball has announced its lineup of clinics for the 2012-2013 offseason.
The softball league offers both private lessons and group instruction.
Catching Camp - Jay Weaver from the New England Catching Camp is joining Grafton Girls Softball again this year for a six week session. New England Catching Camp (www.catchingcamp.com) is the premier provider of catching instruction in the United States. Based in Nashua, NH, their summer camp attracts softball and baseball catchers from all over the United States (and Europe too). Weaver will work with a maximum of eight catchers in a group lesson environment. He will be assisted by GHS catcher Ali Page who is a former NECC student. The session will run on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the North Street School gym from Nov. 1 to Dec. 13.
Pitching Academy - The Pitching Academy is series of 17 weekly private 30-minute pitching lessons with former professional player Kristin Allain. Semi-private (two students at same time) lessons are available at a reduced rate. Private and semi-private lessons will also be offered with junior instructor Kendal Roy. The Academy is on Tuesday evenings at the SGES gym beginning on November 6. Lesson times are available from 6 p.m. through 8:30 p.m.
Hitting Academy - The Hitting Academy is a series of six 30-minute private lessons offered on a weekly basis at The Baseball Academy on Route 20 in Shrewsbury. The lessons will be conducted by Kristin Allain, a standout player at Boston College who played softball professionally in the National Pro Fastpitch league. Lessons will also be offered with junior instructor Tara Faford. The Hitting Academy is on Wednesday evenings and lesson times are available from 6 p.m. through 8:30 p.m. The first session starts on Nov. 7.
Winter Skill Clinics - The extremely popular winter skills clinic will return in January. The weekly one-hour clinic is designed for softball players in Grades 2 - 5. The sessions focus on the on the fundamentals of the game: throwing, fielding, base running and hitting. The clinics will be held on Thursdays at the North Street School gym from Jan. 3 through March 28. The 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. session is designed for players in the 2nd and 3rd grades while the 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. session is for players in grades 4-5. Two of the evenings will be dedicated to an Introductory Pitching Clinic.
Pitching Academy (short-course) – From Jan. 17-March 28, a 10 week short-course version of the Pitching Academy will be offered. The short-course is a 30 minute weekly group pitching lesson taught by junior instructor Kendal Roy. The sessions will on Thursday nights from 7 to 7:30 p.m. at the South Grafton Elementary School gym.
