FALMOUTH, Mass. - Twenty-seven Grafton residents will be among a field of 11,000 runners Sunday in the 40th annual New Balance Falmouth Road Race, a seven-mile run along the shore from Woods Hole to Falmouth Heights.
The New Balance Falmouth Road Race was established in 1973 and has become one of the premier running events of the summer season. Each year, the race draws an international field of Olympians, elite and recreational runners out to enjoy the scenic 7-mile seaside course. Proceeds from the race each year support youth athletic programs in the town of Falmouth and other nonprofit community groups.
An estimated 75,000 spectators line the course each year to cheer on racers. Wheelchair racers start at 9:40 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12; runners take off at 10 a.m.
