Last year more than 9000 volunteers came to the Community Harvest Project farms resulting in a record crop and the largest donation of fresh produce in the history of the Worcester County Food Bank. The generous financial support from GSCU is critical and much appreciated because we give everything away but the hundreds of hours that their employees volunteered really reflects the alignment of the Credit Union's mission with ours. In 2012 over 9000 volunteers produced 250,000 lbs. of high-quality, fresh vegetables and fruit with every pound donated to the Worcester County Food Bank for hunger relief. The original Super Park was built by a host of highly committed volunteers who worked very hard to not only raise the money but actually provide the physical labor. Most of them were young parents. It was a great example of a community working together to make something positive happen. Except for the donation of land and the obvious regulatory oversight, I don't believe the Town of Grafton or taxpayer money was involved. Many years after the original park was built it was refurbished through a Boy Scout Eagle Project led by Michael Thurber of Troop 107. View Comment

A few years ago when this development was first proposed it was DOA because the actual developer, Frank Noel (not sure why the McInnis name is now on this?), needed another access. By the time he got the Worcester Street access the market was turning. Now he's free to take the entrepreneurial risk as long as he gets the proper permitting. It seems pretty clear that he's not interested in the conventional plan because the wetlands and slope will really be challenging never mind trying to get across the railroad. I'm guessing his goal is to put the absolute minimum effort and money into the conventional plan in hopes that the Planning Board will rule in favor of the flexible plan. Time will tell if he even has a viable conventional plan. It's probably just a smokescreen so everyone will feel good in the end because we saved ourselves from a truly awful development in favor of maybe a less awful flexible development. We have a good process in this town with lots of great, informed volunteers who put in a lot of time to keep the wheels of local gov't. turning. I trust with their hard work and engaged citizens that we'll find the best solution for Grafton. Please stay informed and let's leave the mean-spiritedness aside. View Comment
